Early in the morning transfer to the airport and flight from Porlamar or Caracas to Cumaná, one of the oldest cities of the country. Panorama - scenic drive through the Turimiquire hills, passing typical villages and varied landscapes until reaching Caripe, called the “Garden of the Orient” for its rich soil and variety of plantations and known for its fruit and coffee plantations. Visit to the Guacharo cave, home of the oil birds those nests by the thousands in the dark interior. This cave, which was explored 200 years ago by famous German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, has huge stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone formations. Day 2
After breakfast transfer to Boca de Uracoa, a river port in the Orinoco Delta, home of the Warao Indians who support themselves with rich handicraft. This vast area is covered by dense jungle vegetation, criss-crossed by the many side arms of the Orinoco. The boat ride brings us in contact with lush nature and flora and fauna, such as: sweet water dolphins, turtles, crocodiles, otters, piranhas, monkeys, parrots and many more. Our camp is situated on stills directly at the river and is one of the largest and most appealing in the Delta. This indigenous structure gives the visitor a feeling of living in the style of the natives. Huge riverside palafito with dining-social area and bar, protected by a palm roof and extensive deck area with built-in tables and benches, great for star gazing. After Lunch, enjoy activities such as: boat ride, visit Indian communities, guided eco walks. (B, L, D)
Day 3
In the morning you will leave by boat to try your luck at catching piranhas. Boat excursion through floating bora (a water hyacinth with purple or white flowers). After Lunch boat transfer to the river port Boca de Uracoa where you will drive by bus down south, crossing the Orinoco river. You will pass the savanna and the rainforest on your way to El Callao, an old town of gold diggers. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. (B,-, D)
Day 4
The today’s drive follows the road up the Gran Sabana with its legendary table mountains and exceptional high waterfalls. You will pass by a beautiful variety of vegetation and interesting formation of rocks, as the virgin rock, until you reach an altitude of 1.300 Mts. The Chinak-Merú, an imposing waterfall of an altitude of over 100 Mts. will impress you. After lunch you will have the possibility to enjoy a refreshing bath. Dinner and overnight at the Camp. Day 5
After Breakfast you will take the southern road of the Gran Sabana, passing by impressive rock formations which belong to the oldest of the world. The Pemon Indians, inhabitants of this region honor the mountains as thrones of their gods. Rivers and palm groves cross the wide landscape of the savanna, protected as Canaima National Park. Attractive waterfalls can almost be seen from the road. You will discover this region by Jeep. A beautiful highlight of the day is the Quebrada de Jaspe a riverbed of almost 400 Mts. of pure Jasper. After lunch drive south way to the Brazilian border to a town called Sta. Elena, home of gold and diamond searchers and unconventional tourists. Dinner and overnight at the Camp Yakoo. (B, L,-)
Day 6
After breakfast continue to travel through the savannah to Airport Luepa to take your flight to Canaima. If the weather situation allows, you will have the possibility to see the highest waterfall of the world, the Angel Fall, with an altitude of 1000 Mts. After lunch at the Canaima Camp you will have an excursion by dug-out in the beautiful lagoon. You will walk through the jungle until you reach the Salto Sapo, a waterfall where you can walk on the rocks behind the water curtain. In the afternoon the airplane will bring you the Arekuna camp located on a little hill near the Caroní River, surrounded by the Orinoco savannahs and gallery forests that run along the Antabares River. Day 7
In the morning you have time to make an excursion. Depending on the weather and the water level there are several options, being the Baba-falls excursion the most probable: Navigating on the Caroni River you will encounter the Salto Las Babas. After arriving at the beach a walk starts with stops in different sightseeing spots to enjoy the spectacular waterfalls that strech out along 2 kms. Along the river you may also find a white sandy beach contrasting with the reddish waters, typical of the area. After a refreshing swim and sun bath, begins the walk back, taking another path that borders the Caroni River. During the dry season, due to the lower level of the water, you may appreciate the pre-Columbian petroglyphs during the navigation back to the camp. In the afternoon you take your flight to Canaima and back to Porlamar, where you can enjoy the beautiful Caribbean beaches of Margarita Island, or to Caracas. (B,L,-)
