This high plateau region, situated in the mineral rich highland of Guayana is known for its dramatic scenery. The landscape is dominated by tabletop mountains known as tepuys, some of which rise up to thousand meters. An optional flight in a DC3 (with panoramic windows) over the Salto Angel (highest waterfall in the world) and/or an optional excursion to visit the Kavac Canyon are highlights. The Salto Angel can also be reached overland (by canoe and by foot) in one day (only possible in rainy season between June and October).

Kavac excursion: Located on the valley of Kamarata and alongside the Auyantepuy is the small Indian village of Kavac. Under native guidance, you will be wading through rivers and cascades until getting to the Kavac Gorge. Its ceiling is open to the sky and a stone wall clusters the cascade.

LODGING:

HOTURVENSA CAMP in Canaima: several rows of bungalows on a pink sand beach near the Canaima Lagoon .The cabins are simply furnished with ventilator and private facilities. Separate self-service restaurant facilities for meals.

PARAKAUPA CAMP in Canaima: This small Camp, situated about 100 meters from the lagoon and surrounded by a fantastic landscape, offers simple, clean rooms with Shower/WC. From the recreation center the Hacha Falls can be observed. The restaurant serves a good and typical kitchen.
